The fight for browser compliance continues. But the time is coming; adii's (nearly) onboard. IE6, your days are numbered.

Last week I wrote about an IE6 battle featuring Litmus and PushUp. It’s a war that divides the web with very valid arguments on both sides. Should we continue supporting the out-dated IE6 browser..? Or should we drop IE6 support and turn the onus of “updatedness” from web designers to Internet users..?

As it stands, web designers and developers are forced to spend time and money to ensure websites work properly inside IE6. Hello people, and corporates, IE6 was outdated more than 2 years ago for the improved (and free) IE7. So why won’t you upgrade..?

After reading adii’s IE6 support delima, I can see the time is coming; IE6, your days are numbered. The fact that high profile web wizards like adii are even suggesting a total drop of support for IE6, could kick start a global revolution for the immediate end to all IE6 support.

And how cool would be..?

The little people, we small time designers & developers who spend our time and money fixing Microsoft poor workmanship, revolting on a global scale, to speed up the inevitable end of a browser that’s way past its expiry date.

We should do it.
Someone start something. (or has someone already..?)
Spread the word from here. (digg, reddit & sphinn this story)
Something will happen. (and we can all rejoice)

RIP IE6. (that could be our campaign name..?)

But is Internet Explorer 7 a worthy "primary" browser..?

We read a headline today that totally stumped us – Best Free Add-ins for Internet Explorer.

We’re all for browser addons and extensions. But does any real geek or designer actually use IE7..? Is it possible that a developer or serious web surfer uses IE7 as their “primary browser”..?

You would have to to warrant adding to it. And apart from site testing, we don’t use IE at all.

IE7 would be waaay down our list of preferred browser. Opera, FireFox, Safari and Maxthon would be booted up looong before we resorted to that.

Last night Bill Gates made me like Windows again. Today, Windows Defender makes me want to head straight to the closet Apple store, again.

Should it take over 6hrs for Windows Defender to scan a 120gb hard drive..?

Last night I watched a great BBC documentary on Bill Gates (the doco was viewable on the BBC iPlayer, but not any more. All I can find now is a BBC website story). I like Bill, and seeing his story made me momentarily forget my dislike for Microsoft Windows. This memory loss didn’t last long though. Enter Windows Defender.

Seriously – how long does it take to scan a 120GB hard drive…? 6hrs 13mins..?
Am I being unreasonable thinking that it shouldn’t take THAT long..?

I’m not joking – it’s been scanning for 6hrs 13mins, and it’s not finished yet..!

Does anyone know why it takes so long..? Is it THAT thorough or THAT good..? Should I even bother using it..?

It just seems absurd that it should take that long. Lucky it’s July and I have the Tour de France to entertain me. Who knows how long this thing will take to finish. I’m sure Windows Defender is out of date before it finishes a scan.

Knowing Microsoft, Defender will auto-update upon scan finish, then auto re-run because new updates were detected.

Now, where exactly is the new Sydney Apple store …..
