We’ve registered a few domains in our time. It’s not hard to do, but you definitely want a trustworthy, reliable registrar that’s not going to pack up shop and disappear offline.
So when we read this morning that webiste monitoring service mon.itor.us have expanded into the domain registrar World, we though “Cool. They’re a big, reputable company and we’d happily register through them”.
Then we read “$6.95 .com domain” and we thought “Awesome. We’ll DEFINITELY register through them”. That’s REALLY cheap; possibly the cheapest registration available. We’ve seen the same price elsewhere, but we’ve never seen cheaper.
For $6.95 you get:

Mon.itor.us are using www.aptdomain.com as their registration website. Why..? We’re not sure. It would’ve been good to see them utilise their reputation and mon.itor.us name with the service. But there must be some logic behind the move.
It’s great to see WordPress running the mon.itor.us blog. It goes to show how much faith some of the biggest webiste players in the World have in the best free CMS ever.
They could easily make some simple changes to the default WordPress installation to improve their site’s “friendliness”, but we’ll save the post for another time.

The price they are offering are attractive, but would they increase the price of the domain name once they got a lot of customers? I had my bad experience with a few of domain registrar recently…
Yeah I can’t answer that Silent Dog. I love monit.or.us, and have been a big fan of their service for sometime. So I want to believe that they’ll look after their customers as the have in the past – awesomely.
I can highly recommend Dynadot if you want a registrar who’s been in the domain registration game longer than monit.or.us. Dynadot are cheap, easy to use, and totally trustworthy (in all my time with them). You can find them here …. http://www.dynadot.com/
Well, thanks for the reply. Hm.. I got more than 10 domain names almost expired, and wish to make a bulk transfer to aptdomain.com since it is USD7.15 right now. I can save some money on this. Well, looks like I am going to change registrar every year because every registrar keep increasing their price once they got a lot of customers. Ahhh..
By the way, during the transfer process, will my site be inaccessible?
Yep you site will still be fully functional and accessable during a domain transfer. The registrars handle the domain name only, and your hosting is controlled separately.
In most cases, you need to have your domain transfered BEFORE the expiry date: you cannot transfer a domain name AFTER it has expired.
It would be wise to double-check all this with http://www.aptdomain.com.

When I saw my receipt generated by aptdomain.com, it wrote:
Unit price: USD9.99
Today’s price: USD6.85
ICANN fee: USD0.20
Total: USD7.15
I am still hesitate whether I should transfer or not, because for sure, when I wanted to renew my domain names next year, I have to pay USD9.99 for each domain name. (-_-”)… I could not find any cheap / low price domain name reseller. I am so desperate on it. *Sigh*

http://www.dynadot.com charge US$8.99, so there’s an extra $1 per domain savings. If you have alot of domains, $1 per registration can really add up.
Your receipt does make it sound like the $6.85 is a temparary/introductory price that may well increase to $9.99 sometime in the future..? I might email monit.or.us to clarify that.
